This Key Position will be at the forefront of our efforts to become the premier manufacturing of automatic pedestrian access solutions. The challenge is smoothing out the flow of components across our internal and external supply chain to allow us to manufacture a high-quality product that is sold in a complex make to order market place. The Director will have overall responsibility to continually improve supply chain effectiveness and attaining financial objectives in an Engineered/Make To Order environment while working to improve the competitive position and profitability of operations.

Purchasing, materials and production planning functions will report directly to this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leverage existing and build new multi-level relationships into Horton’s supply base.
  • Lead negotiations with external suppliers that satisfy the Company’s internal price, quality, delivery and product development requirements.
  • Maintain a risk analysis to backstop supplier labor stoppages, contract disputes and other acts that could interrupt the flow of production.
  • Develop and execute a sourcing strategy for finished goods and/or subassemblies which expands the Company’s product offering and meets margin requirements and quality standards.
  • Assist in strategic planning, due diligence, and integration efforts in conjunction with the Company’s aggressive growth plans.
  • Partner with engineering, finance and manufacturing leadership to achieve cost reduction targets.
  • Ability to process supplier performance and cost data, market intelligence to develop and implement action plans which drive supplier performance and cost improvement.
  • Manage inventories by increasing turns and minimizing excess and obsolete materials.
  • Collaborating with functional leaders to develop a strategy for improving material management practices.
  • Serving as change agent for new supply chain capabilities

  • Optimizing the supply chain network
  • Managing purchased item planning parameters
  • Create, implement and sustain an operating plan to insure the smooth flow of materials through the production processes
  • Coordinating and leading business unit supply chain reviews
  • Conducting periodic meetings with plant leadership teams to coach, direct and organize activities that lead to the proper setting of production schedules, inventory levels and replenishment cycles
  • Establishing operating policies and procedures that ensure execution to established performance standards
  • Selecting, planning and scheduling supplier activities
  • Facilitating periodic demand mix analysis to synchronize planned production, inventory levels, and consumer demand
  • Communicating across functions to capture business changes affecting the demand plan and ensure alignment with business strategy
  • Understanding and developing best practices to improve future planning efforts
  • Establish strong interaction with sales and marketing to reduce slow moving inventory by crafting common strategies (e.g. discounting, cycle promotions, etc.)
  • Partnering with finance to ensure proper usage of reserves and accruals for excess inventory
  • Coaching and mentoring supply & demand planning professionals

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to Vice President of Operations / Direct Reports: Purchasing, Scheduling & Materials

Skills / Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a related field.
  • Ten years’ experience directly related to supply chain responsibilities preferably in a discrete or flow manufacturing environment.
  • Three years as a Manager (or higher) of Supply Chain Planning within an international, multiple business unit company
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change at all levels of an international, multiple business unit company
  • Demonstrated ability to present and train internal and external suppliers and customers of Supply Chain Planning processes
