General Description of Duties

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, supplies and other miscellaneous items specific to the assigned functional area. Employee functions at entry level in the operation of the warehouse at the Osceola County Corrections Department. May transport and deliver supplies and equipment to staff at the Jail facility. Purpose of the work is to ensure proper tracking and access to necessary items in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Essential Job Functions

The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.   • Receives shipments: loads, unloads and dispatches parts, supplies and equipment. Ensures a timely and accurate flow of received materials to areas throughout the jail.
  • Requisitions office supplies, inmate booking items, materials for inmate housing units, cleaning chemicals etc.
  • Inspects quantity and quality of items received for conformity with ordered product and specifications.
  • Monitors and verifies stockroom integrity and inventory accuracy, develops storage methods, as necessary. Keeps a running record of chemical distribution and quantities.
  • Devises and implements precautionary measures to protect items from loss, damage or deterioration.
  • Trains and oversees inmate workers (trustees) in the efficient and safe execution of warehouse duties. Tracks inmate trustee rosters and delivers trustee boots.
  • Processes outgoing and incoming stock flow and ensures paperwork accuracy.
  • Replaces or repairs pod supplies on an as needed basis, including chemicals.
  • Signs the Daily/Monthly Inventory sheet for tool control.
  • Maintains a complete and up-to-date inventory of all tools, equipment and supplies assigned to the areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures the clean, orderly and safe environmental conditions of assigned warehouse areas; adheres to prescribed safety standards in processing receipts and storage. Informs maintenance of any stockroom repair issues.
  • May participate in preparations of the assigned warehouse area for inventory control and routine audit purposes.
  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience:
Six (6) months of supply clerk/purchasing/inventory or other related experience. Working knowledge and hands-on experience using Microsoft Word and Excel required.

Miscellaneous:
  • No disciplinary action above a Written Reprimand within the previous twelve (12) months.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Forklift Certification is preferred.
  • Must obtain Forklift Certification within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of warehouse operating procedures.
  • Ability to understand, follow and direct written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and tabulations accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
  • Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications.
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files; knowledge of administrative support functions, e.g., records maintenance, data analysis, reports processing, documentation proofing.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment processes utilized in inventory management and warehousing maintenance.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate certification for operating a forklift.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with management, employees, other departments, officials and the general public; knowledge of the principles and techniques of customer service skills.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Physical Demand: Heavy
  • 100 pounds maximum lifting.
  • Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
  • Good eye sight for production or safety of self and others.
  • Physical demand requirements are in excess of medium work
