Trailer Loader/Unloader and Yard Driver

Job Description:

The Forklift Operator – Yard Driver, is a support position for the Warehouse & Logistics group. This person will assist with locating, inspecting, and positioning of delivery trailers. This person will verify and load outbound shipments with both Index trucking and external carriers while having attention to detail for quality. The person will assist the warehouse with movement of trailers, interdepartmental material transfers and any loading / unloading needs. The person will operate a box truck to move material to and from the offsite warehouse when needed. This person will be accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the forklifts, tractor trailers, and box trucks.

Competencies and Qualifications:

· Must be self-driven and motivated with ability to work independently

· Must have Forklift certification (We will train on-site)

· Must be able to follow directions and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

· Must have good attention to detail and quality of product

· Must be able to load and unload tractor trailers

· Must have some knowledge of semi-trailer equipment & DOT safety requirements

· Good communication skills and professional mannerisms are required

· Good organizational and housekeeping skills are required

· Must be able to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment

· Must be able to work in all weather conditions

· Must have ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently

· Must have the ability to adapt quickly to a change in priorities

· Must be able to move trucks around facility; however, commercial drivers’ license not required

· Focus on safe work practices

· Must have a DOT Medical card (We will pay to acquire)

Restrictions and Limitations:

· Must be able to regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds

· Must be able to occasionally lift/move weight that requires team lifting

· Must be able to stand for up to three (3) hours at a time

· Must be able to adjust break times to accommodate delivery deadlines

Responsibilities:

· Operates a forklift competently

· Safely operates a yard tractor to move trailers in and out of the docks and around the yard in a timely manner

· Maintains the yard tractor and dock areas in an organized and clean manner to ensure safety and the quality of product

· Inspects trailers prior to loading to ensure trailer is in road worthy condition

· Performs truck loading/unloading as needed

· Inspects shipments and documentation for accuracy

· Correctly completes all necessary documentation and paperwork

· Coordinates and communicates with the Materials Handling Supervisor to ensure effective yard management and to maximize efficiency of product shipments.

· Correctly completes pre-trip inspections on the box truck when leaving the yard

· Assists with some semi-trailer preventative maintenance tasks

· Coordinates with maintenance on simple repairs to ensure road worthy trailers are available for deliveries

· Maintains a positive attitude, commitment, and dedication to the success of the business.

· Helps support and drive positive results through commitment to lean methodology

· Maintains a professional and positive interaction with drivers, department leads, supervisors, all outside suppliers, and carriers

· Performs assigned cleaning and safety checks

· Complies with OSHA standards and regulations

· All other duties as assigned

· Hourly position

Pay: $18.00 per hour
