Position: Sewing Machine Operator

Reports To: Project Manager

Work Location: Fort Bliss, TX

Job Description: Advantage SCI is seeking a Sewing Machine Operator to be considered for full time employment.

Summary of Duties includes, but is not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates power sewing machines to sew, alter or repair wearing apparel, and other fabric articles
• Alters article according to alteration ticket, fitter’s pins, chalk marks, or verbal instructions.
• Locates defects, and repairs article, including ripping of seams and matching sizes and colors of replacement parts and using heat-sealing iron to patch articles.
• May operate automatic sewing machines, utilizing knowledge of threading machines, winding bobbins, adjusting tension, and oiling parts.
• Work is reviewed for accuracy, neatness, and to determine if instructions have been followed.
• Join together parts of textile (including apparel) articles, gather hem, reinforce, or add decorative trim to articles, attach buttons or other fasteners to articles by machine, using needle and thread. Include Stitching Machine Operators, Collar Basters.
• Duties may vary dependent on department/directorate.

Experience and Skills:

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent required. Experience:
• 4-5 years’ experience in sewing and embroidery Specialized knowledge and skills:
• Refer to orders for sewing garments and select appropriate materials
• Ensure that all materials and auxiliary supplies are available prior to beginning work
• Start sewing machinery at the beginning of a shift and test it for proper functionality
• Address any discrepancies or problems faced during the testing period
• Draw threads through needles and adjust machine functions to meet the requirements of the sewing project
• Position materials under needles to sew them together or make patterns
• Replace and rethread needles for a subsequent project or in case of the existing one needing more thread
• Sew missing stitches or replacement parts in accordance to repair instructions provided
• Observe operations to detect any faults or defects in stitching
• Notify supervisors of any problems or discrepancies during the sewing process
• Attach button.

• Ensure that the finished product conforms to the design and merchandizing instructions provided in the work order
• Ensure that excess material or threads are cut away from the finished product
• Trim finished garments using scissors and cutters
• Perform general and preventative maintenance tasks on sewing machines to ensure their longevity
• Examine finished garments for compliance and ensure that appropriate tags are sewed on them
• Count number of garments stitched during a shift and record this information in company provided logs

Work Environment and Physical Demands

• Office environment: Maintain a tidy work space
• Required to observe all safety and health requirements for office environment.
• Must have a neat and professional appearance.
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Must be able to lift 25 Lbs. continuously, 50 Lbs. intermittently
