We currently have Part-Time positions available (standardized schedule for Part-Time is 21-hours per week with benefits).

As a Security Access Specialist, you’ll perform duties related to the control, monitoring, and granting of access into restricted and/or controlled areas of the Airport. You’ll also be conducting security inspections and screening of individuals, vehicles, and items at access points throughout the airport.

  • You will use closed circuit television and communication systems, maintain surveillance of access points to monitor and control access of people and vehicles onto restricted areas.
  • You will provide assistance and instruction to persons requesting access, or those not familiar with access control procedures.
  • You will monitor alarms associated with the ID/Access Control System and responds to Access Control Alarms in the terminal and on the airfield.
  • You will be staffed at perimeter and interior access control gates to control access onto the Air Operations Area (AOA).
  • You will verify required credentials of those requesting access and report suspicious or unusual occurrences to the Airfield Supervisor, their designee, i.e., Port of Seattle police.
  • You will conduct routine and special security inspections of restricted access areas.
  • You will perform routine tests and preventive maintenance on Access Control System card readers and ensures all equipment is functional, including document and report all discrepancies, performs follow-up inspections.
  • You will be responsible for challenging any person(s) not displaying proper ID media and resolving their status on the AOA and Security Identification Display Area (SIDA), including issuing citations in accordance with applicable Port of Seattle Rules and Regulations, the ASP and CFR 1542 and other applicable directives for Security violations.
  • You will implement security measures required for the designated threat level, as specified in the Airport Contingency Plan, and maintain a high level of vigilance in enforcing access restrictions and preventing unauthorized persons or vehicles from gaining access to the Air Operations Area.
  • You will in the event of a declared aircraft emergency or incident, assumes special duties as designated in the Emergency Plan or as directed by Incident Command personnel.
  • You will monitor construction activities and notifies internal stakeholders of any violations of airport rules and regulations, Federal Aviation Regulations or other activities that may be considered unsafe.
  • You will operate basic security equipment, including x-ray machines, walkthrough metal detectors (WTMD), handheld metal detectors (HHMD), and explosive detection equipment (ETD) at screening checkpoints, and conduct visual searches and pat-down searches of an employee and accessible property as required.
  • You will issue visitor's badges, Vehicle Under Escort signs, and coordinates escort for personnel and ground vehicles requesting access on official business and ensure procedures are maintained while operating in restricted areas.
  • You will maintain a variety of written and electronic documentation of daily activities. Documents security violations when observed for follow-up by Airport Security Coordinator.
Who you are:
  • Experienced – You have two (2) years’ experience in a security capacity where access is restricted.
  • Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Drug and Alcohol Testing – You must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Customer Service Minded – You have a well-developed understanding of customer service concepts and strategies, including conflict resolution.
  • Collaborator – You are comfortable working as part of a team, sharing ideas, and leveraging the expertise of those around you to advance your work including building strong rapports and relationships inside and outside the Port.
  • Agile Minded – You have the ability and motivation to learn security clearance levels, security policies and procedures, restricted area entry procedures and the layout of the airport and applicable current FAA directives and alert bulletins
  • Communication – You have excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting information, describing procedures, and responding to questions. You also have computer skills to complete logs and other documentation.
What else you need to know :
  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will vary. This is a seven day a week and twenty-four hour a day facility. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment – You will work in open areas and varying weather conditions; exposed to the noise and emissions and hazards normally associated with an airport environment and working in proximity to public roadways. You will work at remote locations with frequent public contact and potential for confrontational situations. You will perform some duties in a vehicle. You will perform duties in a restricted area, normally seated at a console with subdued lighting.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement – Effective, November 15, 2021, the Port of Seattle will require that at the time of hire, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate will be able to provide proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination status, as part of the hiring process. This is a condition of employment for all positions at the Port of Seattle. People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine.   • Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Union Representation – This position is represented by International Longshore and Warehouse union, Local 9.
