Quality Engineer Job Description

Troy-CSL Lighting is seeking a highly driven and passionate Quality/Sustaining engineer. As the Quality engineer you will work very closely with the engineer managers, production, and Director of Manufacturing. The Quality engineer is responsible for QC support for all CSL products. This position is accountable for leading and ensuring that all quality initiatives, procedures, and training activities are consistent with company goals and objectives to facilitate our manufacturing processes. Troy-CSL is seeking a Quality/Sustaining Engineer supports the ongoing quality of CSL legacy products and works with project management and manufacturing engineers to support new production introduction and ongoing validation.

Responsibilities:

  • Uses quality tools to implement improvements including process flowcharting, Pareto analysis, correlation and regression analysis, significance tests, design of experiments, statistical process control, gauge repeatability and reproducibility, and trend analysis techniques.
  • Assists the development of essential QMS deliverables/Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) including, but not limited to: complaint analysis, risk analysis, failure mode and effects analysis, CAPA, and process/equipment/software verification / validation.
  • Reviews drawings to evaluate quality requirements including correct application of geometric dimensioning and tolerance, proper use of process and material specifications, and key characteristics for inspection plans and gauging techniques.
  • Develops inspection criteria that correlate customer requirements and manufacturing processes that include identification of characteristics, sampling plans, and gauging. This also includes the guidance into the control plans and will be the final reviewer for all control plan documentation.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Performs quality reviews and internal audits; evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Interfaces with appropriate customer contacts to clarify customer requirements to include cosmetic specifications.
  • Acts as a customer liaison and processes customer quality complaints.
  • Reviews and approves change requests.
  • Recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
  • Participates in pre- and post-production reviews providing quality engineering support.
  • Collects the required data and chart the quality goals established by the management team.
  • Supports measuring and analyzing key metrics to monitor performance.
  • Leads productivity improvements by providing quality guidance.
  • Support quality complying with all Quality Management Systems (QMS) documentation requirements and establishing/supporting plan(s) to meet/exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality that support Safety, Compliance, Six Sigma Quality, and financial objectives.
  • Coordinate and train employees to follow work instructions and related assembly drawings for the manufacture of CSL products.
  • Monitors and reports regarding product quality and equipment findings to ensure production and quality standards are met.
  • Act to disposition and prevent the manufacture of non-conforming material.
  • Provide a communication interface between Production Supervisor and employees to assure that quality problems are handled on a timely basis.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Identify, understand, and improve manufacturing variances and processes.
  • Own team-based training matrixes oversee training of new assemblers and ensure training records of team members are submitted and correct.
  • Promote continuous improvement culture with assigned team members.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
  • Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
  • Prepare reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing/quality performance.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Quality focused degree preferred.
  • Exceptional creativity and innovative thinker
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Knowledgeable in machined parts, sheet metal, plastic extrusion and injection molding, aluminum extrusion, casting, and electronic assemblies.
  • Resourceful and proactive
  • Diligent time and energy management skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptive to fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable communicating with internal teams
