Established public adjusting firm, over 75 years in business, has an immediate opening for a public adjuster in our Orange County office. Clients are primarily located in the Orange County, San Diego County, and Inland Empire.

Territory: Southern California, various western States and some international work, though the vast majority of assignments will be in our Southern California community.

Job Traits: Requires flexibility to operate in a variety of environments, independently motivated, social intelligence, with good writing skills, ability to work within a team, one on one, or virtually. Position is a hybrid position, remote 3-4 days on average, the remaining 1 to 2 days in the office. The position requires travel to and from incident-based losses, the majority of which are fire or water damaged properties. Normal work week is Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with rare, limited communication on weekends, confirming availability in the week ahead.

Experience: Five (5) years+ of insurance adjusting, preferably in first party property claims (not liability claims). Background in carrier, independent adjusting or public adjusting required. Also experience in using, or knowledge of, estimating platforms such as Xactimate, CoreLogic Symbility, as well as ability to implement best practices within a challenging customer service-oriented environment.

Knowledge: General knowledge of insurance claims, policies, and practices, and contracts and their application. Property estimating and automated claims systems are a plus. Demonstrated knowledge of the investigation, consultation and settlement activities used to resolve extensive property damage claims.

Requirements: Virtual, in office and field-loss environment. May require ability to sit and operate cell phone and computer for extended periods of time. Able to make physical inspections of property loss sites; climb ladders, balance at various heights, stoop, bend and/or crawl to inspect vehicles and structures; work outside in all types of weather. Must be willing to work irregular hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements. May be on-call. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT). Extended and/or non-standard hours as required. Candidates must have transportation, valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record, and submit to and successfully pass a State required background check, and licensing exam.

Skills/Competencies: Proven ability to meet client needs and provide meaningful service by guiding clients through the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to make decisions and resolve issues related to application of coverages to submitted claims, application of laws of jurisdiction to investigation facts, and application of policy exclusions and exceptions. Ability to establish scopes of damage and repair cost estimates for property losses. Ability to evaluate and successfully advise on property claims. Organizational skills to prioritize work. Command of written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with policyholders, claimants, repairpersons, attorneys, agents, and the general public. Ability to efficiently operate a computer and related business software. Provide leadership to less experienced claims associates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adjust, negotiate, and settle assigned losses promptly and effectively, with little to no direction and oversight. Ability to make decisions within delegated authority as outlined in company policies and procedures.
  • Read and understand insurance policies and have working knowledge of policy coverages and apply appropriate practices to resolve cases in alignment with insurance adjusting guidelines. Provide the client with a detailed explanation of both the estimate and the policy.
  • Conduct a detailed inspection of the property and write an estimate to capture the extent of the damages.
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance and applicable product/services; court decisions which may impact the claims' function; current guidelines; and policy changes and modifications. This may require attending various seminars and/or training sessions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local industry repair procedures and local market pricing.
  • Collaborate with vendors and insurance companies to identify damages.
  • Assist or prepare files for lawsuit, trial, or subrogation.
  • Initiate and conduct follow-ups by proficient use of claims and other related business systems.
  • Deliver an outstanding customer service experience to all internal, external, current, and prospective clients. Adhere to high standards of professional conduct while providing delivery of outstanding service.
  • Communicate empathetically with customers and help them through their claim process in a fast, fair, and easy manner.
  • Adjusters are required to engage and participate in person and virtual meetings and trainings.

  • Strong customer service competency
  • Comfortable entering buildings and homes that have been severely damaged
  • Comfortable with climbing up on building roofs as needed
  • Prior claims handling experience
  • Empathy and a confident demeanor
  • Ability to work independently starting your day from home and traveling to various locations to restore peoples’ lives through outstanding customer service.
  • Organized and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally – both written and verbal
