The Denver Distribution Center, located in Denver, Colorado, has an opening for a Maintenance Superintendent.

Position Purpose: Supervise licensed stationary engineers, licensed electrician, mechanical maintenance personnel, Material Handling Equipment (MHE) mechanics, sanitation and battery men. Facilitate safety programs and safety meetings. Oversee repair and maintenance of Division MHE. Ensure compliance of all regulatory agency regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred
  • 4 years supervision experience, preferably in a Distribution Center
  • Thorough knowledge of major ammonia refrigeration systems, boiler systems and HVAC
  • Requires knowledge of electrical currents ranging from 12V to 13,000 KVA Transformers
  • Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems and proficient in understanding blue prints and electrical schematics
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility
  • Experience in a union environment with strong labor relations skills preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills. This includes the ability to empower, supervise, coach and direct a diverse workforce
  • Strong knowledge of basic engineering principles
  • Well-developed analytical and computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access
  • Excellent customer service focus, results oriented
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays required
  • Ability to assist in effectively planning and coordinating distribution center projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required for effective communications with all levels of the organization

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise maintenance activities in the distribution center, including repair and preventative maintenance programs for equipment and facilities.
  • Responsible for supervising the repair and maintenance of our retail MHE fleet for a five state region, including communicating with store personnel and division store maintenance personnel concerning repairs and replacements.
  • Set and monitor maintenance performance targets both short and long term.
  • Keep informed of Federal, State, and Municipal laws and regulations, collective bargaining agreements and Company work rules regarding maintenance and warehouse operation of company.
  • Manage labor relations by dealing with grievances, corporate, warehouse employees, and union business agents.
  • Ensure Safeway policies, procedures and practices are strictly adhered to, including appropriate audit, controls and segregation of duties are in place to support Sarbanes Oxley compliance
  • Ensure facility departmental compliance and interface with Regulatory Agencies. (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Assist with Capital development, cost estimation and management as needed.
  • Ensure safe operation of refrigeration systems. (Ammonia, boilers, chillers, etc.)
  • Get bids from outside contractors, compile and submit to the Manager.

Travel -- up to 25%

The salary for this position ranges from $70,000-$85,000 per year; starting rate will vary based on circumstances, including experience, qualifications, location and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Dependent on length of service and hours worked, benefits include, healthcare, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401k eligibility).
