Salary: $75/Shift, Additional $18.00 /hour for response calls

Family Violence & Shelter Support (FVSS) is a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs of victims and potential victims of domestic violence, batterers and children who have witnessed or been affected by domestic violence in their families and/or been a direct victim by virtue of trying to intervene in the violence. FVSS addresses the issues of domestic violence as it impacts the whole family through prevention, early intervention and treatment strategies. Services are family strengths-based and offer a wide spectrum of bilingual, culturally competent services in order to terminate the abusive behavior and initiate a healthy relationship within the home.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must respond to the scene within 15-20 minutes for local Law Enforcement Calls; 30 minutes for out-of-area response, i.e., Juvenile Hall.
  • Conduct safety assessments and provide crisis intervention services.
  • Complete CWS referrals when appropriate.
  • Must attend agency and other meetings as requested by Program Director; night meeting twice monthly at 6 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday.
  • Complete case file paperwork completely and in a timely manner.
  • Enter client level data and case notes into database on same day as call.
  • Schedule varies based on staff/shift availability.
  • Must work four shifts every two weeks, including a Saturday or Sunday shift twice monthly.
  • Must work four holiday shifts per year.
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director and/or Department Director.
Requirements:
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice or a related field, preferred - or experience working with domestic violence, case management or at-risk youth may be substituted.
  • If substituting degree for experience a minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience in the areas of domestic violence, individual, group, and family counseling, community education and development, advocacy, and case management. Experience should preferably have been in a community based or neighborhood service organization.
  • Experience in the areas of domestic violence, individual, group, and family counseling, community education and development, advocacy and case management.
  • Ability to work with a diverse cultural population.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Tagalog) strongly preferred.
  • Candidate is required to drive their personal vehicle on behalf of SBCS; therefore the candidate must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check. Candidate must also possess and maintain a current valid California driver’s license and valid auto insurance policy. (80% of the time.)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Stand: Remaining on one’s feet in an upright position.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot.
  • Lifting: Raising or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) 25-50 lbs
  • Carrying: Transporting an object, usually holding it in the hands or arms, or on the shoulder
  • Pushing: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force.
  • Pulling: Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking)
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending stairs, using feet and legs or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  • Finger Movement: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which workers must impart oral information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
