Compensation: $85,000 – 95,000 annual salary

Overview

Summit Materials is looking for a Dispatch Manager within the Cement division to efficiently and effectively manage the dispatch process, procedures, improvements, optimize costs, and meet customer commitments, internally and externally for all modes of transportation.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Safety first mindset always; Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Drive proactive communication, ownership over the text alert system (Message Media); Build working relationships with internal and external customers to ensure customer needs are addressed and challenges resolved in a timely fashion to achieve highly positive customer results consistent with strategic objectives
  • Proactively cold call and communicate with customers to drive inside sales
  • Negotiate with carriers to achieve the best outcome; provide truck rate guidance for sales to execute against
  • Prioritize deliveries to efficiently maximize time and effectively utilize trucks/carriers by collaborating with terminals, sales, customers to establish delivery schedules according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery sites and loading/unloading times
  • Manage Safety Plus requirements, insurance and training for Vendors, Carriers and Drivers at Continental locations and customer sites
  • Report against KPI metrics (carrier & customer scorecards, freight to customer, % full, transit time variances, etc.)
  • Accurately processes invoices, delivery tickets, related shipping documents
  • Participate in the annual Truck Request for Quote (RFQ) process
  • Act on areas of continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Update and communicate quarterly fuel surcharge tables by state for internal and external customers and carriers; enter tariff information to estimate customer requirements; Performs other responsibilities as assigned
  • 1 Direct Report: Dispatcher
  • Cross functional partners: Safety, Supply Chain, Distribution, Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Quality, Human Resources, Engineering

Skills & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 10+ years in the transportation industry; 5+ years dispatching experience
  • Safety mindset; organized self-starter with a positive can-do attitude, a sense of urgency to meet customer commitments, manage and follow through on multiple tasks, proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-Starter, strong organizational and time-management skills with an internal drive to continuously hit or exceed targets. Communications: integrity and trust, information must be tactful, respectful, clear, precise, and accurate.
  • The expectation is that information flows upward and downward throughout the organization. Customer Service focused; pleasant/positive attitude working with CCC team, customers, and the public. Problem Solving Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to define operational problems, identify needs, resolve problems, analyze, and interpret results with attention to the details.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking; some exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures when on a job site.
  • Travel: ~ 15%
