JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Sustainability is responsible for developing and owning a comprehensive sustainability platform across critical commodities that will provide competitive advantage to CQC. Collaborate with business partners both internally and externally to implement long-term sustainability strategies to drive commercial and societal impact. The role will lead all aspects of raw material sustainability within the organization and create a framework that upholds CQC’s mission/values and three pillars of sustainability. Responsible for driving the execution of project plans, working directly with suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders to build engagement and trust with the business. A critical element of the role is to establish a framework for sustainability that meets CQC’s long term growth goals and addresses challenges faced in sourcing key materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Lead the development and execution of sustainability initiatives across key raw material categories including cocoa and palm oil in support of CQC’s three pillars of sustainability – community, environment, and traceability
- Build action plan to implement CLMRS and address labor rights within the cocoa supply chain
- Develop strategic supplier partnerships and implement comprehensive programs across all origins that meet specific customer requirements
- Create a roadmap to 100% traceable cocoa via polygon mapping and digitized reporting
- Maintain CQC’s CFI (Cocoa Forest Initiatives) action plans and reporting to appropriate parties
- Develop place-based initiatives in key growing areas for key commodities
- Travel to origin countries to establish boots-on-the-ground relationships and develop in-depth understanding of the supply chain and sustainability standards
- Serve as the sustainability champion and subject matter expert while partnering across the organization to embed sustainability into the business and drive accountability, execution, and continuous improvement
- Partner with the marketing and communications team to optimally position sustainability to tell the story of CQC’s efforts across the supply chain to existing and potential customers
- Manage all certification programs (Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, RSPO, and customer specific) across categories to ensure annual compliance to global standards
- Lead on-site and desk audits from certifying bodies
- Expand certification reporting through detailed portal management and create internal reporting mechanism
- Collaborate with Regulatory Department to maintain CQC policies and procedures
- Manage sustainability reporting in third party systems (CDP, Ecovadis, etc.) and customer specific questionaries
- Work cross-functionally to develop and execute environmental goals throughout the CQC supply chain and within the Scope 1 footprint
- Implement and maintain a process to track actual performance against program commitments and report all sustainability metrics and KPI’s to key stakeholders
- Represent CQC in relevant industry groups and platforms and bring best practices and innovative sustainability opportunities back to the business
- Conduct business in a professional manner adhering to CQC’s Mission Statement and Company Values
QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Business, Social Impact/Sustainability, or related field
- 5-8+ years of relevant experience in sustainability; direct experience in the cocoa supply chain is preferred
- Must possess strong sustainability understanding and business acumen that demonstrates critical thinking and strategic agility skills
- Demonstrated experience in global agricultural commodities with complex supply chains
- Ability to build strong internal and external relationships with various levels of associates, stakeholders, and leadership
- Advanced analytical skills to support the analysis and interpretation of sustainability impacts on businesses and value chains
- Demonstrated ability to develop teams and drive results through both direct and indirect influence
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to successfully manage competing priorities
- Highly organized with strong project management skills
- Comfortable working in a global environment & savvy with global travel
- Ability to speak French is beneficial
- Proficient in MS Office
