Aslan Foundation Grounds Manager

Purpose:

The Grounds Manager is a critical part of the Aslan Foundation team. Supervised by the Director of Properties, the Grounds Manager oversees the Foundation’s properties to advance the organization’s preservation and enhancement of the natural and cultural assets of Knoxville.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage Aslan properties to ensure grounds (landscape and hardscape) are maintained at a high quality level.
  • Uphold the properties’ landscape design and encourage plant and tree growth and longevity.
  • Manage and update work orders in Aslan Foundation’s project management system to achieve quality work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Liaison with outside contractors as needed to best serve the needs of the properties.
  • Supervise and assist work crews in the following tasks with a focus on safety, the natural environment, and historic preservation:
  • Landscaping, planting, weeding, edging, pruning, and mowing.
  • Treat trees and plantings as needed.
  • Remove invasive plant species from Aslan Foundation properties and other areas as needed including the use of chemical spraying.
  • Operate and maintain small-engine equipment (such as chainsaws, wood splitters, weed eaters, mowers, power washers, blowers, parking lot vacuums).
  • Improve and create new recreational trails.
  • Cut, split, and stack firewood.
  • Work will require lifting up to 50lbs and may be performed in inclement weather.
  • Monitor worksite safety and ensure proper training and supervision of work crews in use of equipment and chemicals to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Ensure protection of properties from damage by fire, water, vandalism, etc. through pro-active risk management and security system monitoring.
  • Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum six years experience in property and landscape management.
  • Experience using landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Minimum two-years supervisory experience, ideally in a small team environment.
  • Experience overseeing contractors.
  • Experience working outdoors professionally.
  • Pro-active and self-motivated.
  • Ability to plan projects as well as adjust schedules quickly.
  • Love of problem solving and variety in a working environment.
  • Safety-first and risk management mentality.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Available as needed outside of regular working hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs by self and team lift objects weighing up to 150lbs (e.g., trees).
  • Environmentally Conscious Outdoor Enthusiast preferred.
  • Interest in and passion for charitable causes preferred.
  • Willingness to work with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to tackle demanding physical tasks.
  • Willingness to work in inclement conditions (heat, cold, rain, or snow).
