Associate Job Summary:
Operators are responsible for safely packing and wrapping merchandise requested on a reservation document before it is shipped to the customer.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
Performing value added services (VAS) is a critical step in the processing of outbound merchandise in Internet Fulfillment.
- Operators are responsible for safely packing and wrapping merchandise requested on a reservation document before it is shipped to the customer.
- Possible services include prepping items for shipping (bubble wrap, tissue paper), preparing a unit as a gift (gift box or gift wrap), and securely packing the merchandise in the outbound carton.
- VAS operators will manually load cartons at the individual packing stations. These cartons contain picked merchandise and are received on a conveyor at the VAS stations from the picking areas and are pre-labeled with shipping barcode labels.
- The shipping label holds all the reservation information and eliminates the need for a paper reservation.
- The shipping label also keeps track of the units that are shipped out in each carton since some reservations are shipped out in multiple cartons.
- These received cartons are the same cartons that will be sent to shipping once VAS is completed.
- Items are removed from the cartons by the station operator to perform the necessary value-added services.
- As items are removed, each piece of merchandise should be inspected for any defects or damage.
- The operator will then either scan a UPC or choose a task associated with the carton.
- Scanning a UPC brings up the first task associated with that unit as well as all other units needing the task.
- Choosing a task shows all the UPCs in the carton that require the specific service.
- After the value-added services have been performed, the merchandise is placed back into the originally received carton, packed securely, and set on a conveyor that goes to the void fill area.
PROCESSING AREAS OVERVIEW AND REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Operators will be expected to perform several functions during employment that can involve product loads of up to 40 pounds.
- Operators will typically be on their feet 85% of the time during working hours. During that time, operators will have to lift full cartons off an inbound conveyor and onto an outbound conveyor, assemble gift boxes and corrugated cartons, and perform services for cartons and units that have been requested and are valued by the customer.
- Physically wrapping and packing merchandise is the most valuable contribution in this process. It is the VAS operator's job to complete the requested services with a sense of dignity to ensure the customer has the best possible experience.
Education Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
