The Vice President (VP), Technology is a newly created role. This role will provide technical leadership for Smithfield manufacturing, hog production (HPD) and farming operations. This individual will assist in accelerating existing technology initiatives serving as a key advisor and providing expertise and direction. They will partner with business leaders to establish a value case for technology investments and create individual business cases for projects expected to achieve positive returns. Additionally, they will partner to establish a roadmap for future technology innovation, in some cases overlapping between manufacturing and HPD.

- Serve as an advisor to the organization on technology investments
- Assist in the definition and delivery of a technology strategic plan as it relates to Hog Production (Farm Management, Animal Management, Feed Management, Veterinary Care, Land and Waste Management) and Manufacturing operations (PLC data collection, analytics, Predictive and Preventative Maintenance)
- Assist in the prioritization of technology investments based on time to implement and financial return, serve as a key partner in leading the definition of the business case
- Understand industry offerings as it pertains to the remote nature of the business
- Establish the standard for a Smithfield “Smart Farm” including but not limited to the following components:
- Cameras for animal counts, monitoring, tracking and/or movements
- Cameras for remote veterinary care
- Sensors for feed/water intake and/or humidity, temperature monitoring and alerts/alarms
- Sensors for monitoring of external/environmental conditions (lagoon, rain)
- Scales for weight monitoring
- Digitizing animal record keeping (grow to finish), veterinary care documentation, specimen collection
- Data collection for Manufacturing operations (PLC)
- QR Codes/Solution for employee/contractor traceability between farms
- Cameras for animal counts, monitoring, tracking and/or movements
- Partner with HPD & IT on the success of the Prairie Systems Feed System implementation to maximize the analytic and forecasting nature of the data captured from the Feed Mills and scheduling/transportation (routing and logistics)
- Partner with the IT Security and Data Engineering teams to determine how much IoT data will be captured, how it will be securely stored and how it will be used for reporting purposes
- Determine a mobile strategy for transactions or reporting/alert visibility
- Coordinate product and technology evaluations and Proof of Concept work with 3rd party partners
- Help departments use technology profitably and define/measure with appropriate operational KPIs
- Partner with the PMO on post project financial benefit realization reporting
- Evaluate production infrastructure to ensure availability, functionality and efficiency
- Work with a consideration toward quality assurance and data protection processes
- Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology
- Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science or related field and 15+ years of experience in IT; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in an IT project leadership role with specific emphasis and deep working knowledge and experience in effective project management, IT Service Management Practices (ITIL) or similar mythology, to include team development and management, required.
- Experience as a Technology leader in an organization
- Experience with IT Planning, Strategy and Financial Management leadership.
- Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure and architecture of computer systems as well as exposure to a variety of platforms such as PLCs, cameras, networks, sensors, IoT devices and data capture and reporting.
- Solid analytical skills, experience solving practical issues and engaging cross functional teams of multiple process partners to gain consensus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with peers and executive leadership.
- Strong leadership and management skills that align with the Smithfield culture. Specific skills include facilitating change, driving operational excellence, and striving for continuous improvement.
- Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work.
