THE OPPORTUNITY
The Sheriff's Communication Manager is responsible for a variety of technical, analytical and administrative activities related to providing public safety radio communications throughout El Dorado County. The selected candidate will design and implement radio and data communication systems, working with allied agencies to develop region-wide systems.
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Manage program goals, priorities, and long term staffing needs of the Radio Communications Unit
- Preparing periodic status reports, analyzing assigned services and systems, making recommendations as to the current and future use and needs
- Represent the Sheriff's Office at various meetings, negotiating and managing agreements for service

Evaluates and reports on outside vendors for the suitability to meet the County's radio and data needs

Where college degrees and/or college course credits are required, degrees and college units must be obtained from an accredited college or university. Courses from non-accredited institutions will not be evaluated for this requirement.
Equivalent to an AA or AS degree with major coursework in electronics or a closely related field AND three years of supervisory or administrative experience in a radio and data communications setting. Experience working with large radio systems is desirable.
NOTE: The above qualifications are a typically accepted way of obtaining the required knowledge and skills.
Other Requirements
Must possess a valid California driver's license. Must be willing to respond to off-hours emergencies as required.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
The Sheriff’s Personnel Unit will screen all applications to identify qualified candidates. Those applicants who meet the minimum requirements for this position will be required to complete a pre-investigative questionnaire. Based on the information provided, applicants may be disqualified based on criteria set forth in Part 7, Section 706.1 of the County of El Dorado Personnel Rules and in conjunction with Sheriff’s Selection Policy 1000. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment process.

Training and Experience Review (Weighted 100%): A training and experience review consists of candidates responding to supplemental questions on the job application. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting applicants for Sheriff's Communication Manager. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full time vacancies.
There is currently one (1) full time vacancy in the Sheriff's Office, working primarily in the Placerville Office, but may be required to respond to emergencies throughout the county.
