Job Description Summary

In this highly visible role, the Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for supporting the VP of R&D in planning, budgeting, forecasting and analyzing financial results of the Global R&D function for the business unit. Additionally, you will have responsibility for the New Product Development financial modeling process for the Business Units robust development pipeline.

You will be required to collaborate with Business Unit functions and Global Platforms to ensure the accuracy of monthly reporting, quarterly projections and annual budgets as well as to monitor, track and analyze actual performance against plans for purposes of providing analysis and commentary for management decision support. Planning areas will include R&D, Clinical Trials, and Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Cost Center planning and budgeting effort for Global R&D, Clinical Trials and Medical Affairs

  • Maintains financial planning models, develops and supervises forecasts, trends and supports performance management analysis and commentary development

  • Understands budgeting, planning and operational data to run reports and develop ad-hoc reports using Excel and standardized planning tools.

  • Prepares ad hoc analysis for Finance Leadership, Business Partners and Segment FP&A on an as-needed basis.

  • Develop financial reporting systems for leading business performance.

  • Assist in the preparation and review of funding requests by providing accurate project & capital investment calculations of IRR, break-even and net present value in accordance with company guidelines.

  • Assist with the monthly accounting close process.

  • Assist with audit and tax requests.

  • Be responsible for the financial modeling process for the New Product Development pipeline through NPV, ROI, payback and cash flow calculations.

  • Special projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in one of these fields: Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant finance/accounting experience with a focus on planning, budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting required, including month end close activities. Public accounting and manufacturing experience beneficial.

  • Professional experience in large, global, multi-segment business, or public accounting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to go beyond the numbers, discern trends, resolve root cause of variances, and consider the broad business implications in helping to find opportunities and improve performance

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills for creating insightful and useful reporting and analysis

  • Knowledge of accounting policies and procedures – GAAP/IFRS

  • Experience in trend analysis, forecasting, and modeling.

  • Sophisticated experience with ERP Systems, budgeting and reporting tools commonly found in today larger businesses such as SAP, BPC, JDE, Oracle. SAP strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel required (VLOOKUP, macros, pivot tables, etc.) and Microsoft tools (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Access, etc.)

  • Validated communication and presentation with all levels of management; must be effective in converting data into useful information and communicating that information through concise commentary

  • Experience developing and implementing multi-segment business plans

  • Highly responsive, paired with a definitive emphasis on quality control

  • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, work independently and on teams with multiple, opposing projects and timelines.

  • Strong presentation, social skills – Effective communicator with ability to be persuasive and influence senior management, locally or remotely and within a multicultural, matrixed organization.

  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships and build trust across a team environment

  • Ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to detail.
