JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for general sanitation work. Sanitation employees clean up after production shifts by breaking down the production equipment, scrub, scrape, wash, and sanitize to allergen and microbiological free sanitary standards. Some sanitation work could take place during production hours, this would be a controlled, segregated and supervised sanitation process. The cleaned and sanitized equipment is inspected and released by both sanitation and QA.

This position will work on call as needed for emergencies and perform principal responsibilities of sanitation with primary responsibility to assigned department. Must be able to carry out task with minimal supervision, cleans and sanitize equipment, containers, utensils, and others. Sets up and operates foaming and related equipment

This position is also responsible for understanding related Quality Management Systems including HACCP, and GMPs to ensure safety and quality of employees and products.

The job duties include responsibility for assuring food safety and for food quality for Fresh Express.

A supervisor or other person of authority should be notified if any issues or threats to food safety or food quality are observed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Perform tasks associated with general sanitation including eight steps to include: dry pickup, rinse, scrub, foam, rinse, inspect and sanitize equipment to requirements sanitary condition
• Safely handling of chemicals, including mixing, dispensing, performing titrations for verification of dilutions
• Break down production equipment, reassemble cleaned equipment for next shift
• Keep plant trash removed on a timely basis
• Report and resolve food safety issues
• Be aware of your surroundings as the floors are slippery
• Follow sanitation dress code standards and maintains good personal hygiene
• Follow sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) for the equipment
• Perform assignments in accordance with established GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies and procedures
• Perform scheduled tasks on the Master Sanitation Schedule
• Able to learn how to clean and sanitize equipment, containers, utensils, etc.
• Sweep, squeegees, clean, and sanitize floors
• Able to learn how to operate foaming equipment and floor scrubbing equipment
• Participate in ongoing training sessions for the Sanitation Department
• Operates processing equipment to be able to clean it
• Cleans warehouse, hallways, floors, walls, dollies, carts, service area floors, and related facilities and equipment
• May instruct and oversee the activities of new employees performing the same type of work.
• Maintain floor drain in sanitary condition
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Trains new employees as part of the buddy-training program.
• Maintain records as needed.
• Work with Quality department to meet or exceed sanitary conditions.
• Assists in developing SSOP to ensure regulatory compliance

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma/GED required
• Proficient in written, oral, and interpersonal communications in English.
• Must have reliable transportation
• Must have a flexible schedule which includes availability to work overtime
• Work schedule requires flexibility in shift hours as staff will need to stay until tasks are completed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment
• Walk, bend, kneel, and reach
• Ability to lift 20-50 pounds using all safety precautions
• Stand for long periods of time
