MultiCare’s Pharmacy Technician Training Program will provide the student with experience in retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, as well as specialty areas within pharmacy.
The program is broken up into two parts: didactic and experiential. The didactic portion is the educational part of the program that will be taught through computer modules. The experiential portion is the hands-on training the student will receive at various sites within MultiCare. The program is designed to prepare the student for state and national certification.
General Description:
This is an on-the-job training position working with pharmacy technicians under direct supervision of a pharmacist. This position will be conducted concurrently with a didactic pharmacy technician program and supervised experiential work. Upon completion of the didactic and experiential components, the candidate will be qualified to take the national pharmacy technician certification exam. Work situations require organization and attention to detail. External contact/interactions with MultiCare patients are frequent.
New Employee Orientation start dates would be September 26, 2022 or October 10, 2022.
Qualifications:
- No experience needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Washington State Board of Pharmacy “Pharmacy Assistant” License with technician-in-training endorsement (to be acquired prior to start date): Employee/Trainee will pay for this fee (This is only done if an offer is made)
Pharmacy Tech Trainee Program Info:
- The Pharmacy Tech Program is paid by MultiCare.
- Program length: 4-6 months: Vacations are not permitted during this time. Attendance is mandatory for successful completion of the program.
- This program is through ASHP https://www.ashp.org/ (A web-based, online program which is approximately 160hrs that is self paced, to be completed outside of work.)
o This is full time or part time/ and benefit eligible, paid positions, at the time of your training hire date. The full or part time is dependent on the available positions at a site. You are paid during the experimental portion of this program.
o Please note: the trainee will not be paid for their didactic work, but in this position, is required to complete the program. The Didactic duration is hours as required by the State of Washington.
- Internet and computer access is required to complete the didactic portion of the training.
- Days/hours of all the training: To be determined as this can vary per site depending on when trainers are available.
- Shifts: Variable (Days, Eves, weekends), 8hr shifts
- Pay: $20.00
- The candidate will sign a two year work agreement, if hired, to stay with MultiCare at least two years, due to the investment.
- If offered a position, the Trainee would need to send a copy of the MultiCare offer letter, along with the endorsement (provided by the Program team) and Pharmacy Assistant application, to Dept of Health.

o The trainee employee will pay and obtain their Washington State Board of Pharmacy “ Pharmacy Assistant” licensure. Pharmacy Assistant Application fee: currently is $70.00
o Trainee will pay for the National Certification fee, licensure and endorsement fees. The Pharmacy Tech credential fee: currently is $140.00
Upon successful completion of the program/education the testing is not covered by MultiCare. This will be the candidate/trainee responsibility.
Upon successful completion of the program, there is the opportunity to apply/transition to a Pharmacy Tech position at MultiCare.
Final Pharm Tech positions: Available open positions after the completion of the training program will determine the schedule. The training schedule might be different than the permanent role.
