SCHEDULE:6am-6:30pm, 72 hours per pay period

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with admission process by taking initial vital signs, measurements and weights, orienting patient/family to unit, hospital facilities and services, and documenting on appropriate forms per unit standards.

Delivers patient care promptly, accurately and according to unit standards, policies, and procedures, as well as patients plan of care. Contributes relevant and appropriate information to the RN. Maintains confidentiality of patient related issues. Supports the Patient Bill of Rights and Hospital Mission and Values. Participates in meeting and reinforces patients educational needs, documents accordingly.

Assists physician and/or nurse with procedures such as lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, central line insertion. Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique. Performs EKGs, as needed.

Monitors and accurately records patient intake and output. Reports changes in patients status (e.g., changes in vital signs, level of consciousness, weight, mobility status, comfort level, feeding pattern or any unusual occurrences) to the RN in a timely manner.

Assist patient with routine activities of daily living: feeding, bathing, ambulating, and skin care according to policy and documents appropriately. Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills appropriate to the age, type, and developmental level of the patients.

Answers call lights timely and intervenes appropriately. Responds to patient and family requests promptly.

Transports patients to various departments upon discharge.

Stocks and orders supplies for unit and/or patient. Removes equipment and supplies not in use; cleans equipment and returns to appropriate storage location. Keeps patient area clean and free of trash and clutter. Keeps linen appropriately stored; empties linen hampers and trash, as needed.

Provides and documents patient treatments.

Provides emotional support to patients and families, documents appropriately.

Attends and participates in unit related in-services, conferences, and meetings.

Collaborates by working with others to achieve unit and organizational goals. Utilizes proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.

Participates in unit staff meetings and CQI plan to improve organizational performance and achieve unit and organizational goals.
