Job description

The Operating Room Registered Nurse possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile technique, combined with knowledge of human anatomy, Orthopaedic and ENT surgical procedures, instrumentation, and surgical technology to assist the surgeon, anesthesiologist and Surgical Technologist to provide safe and competent care for our patients. The Circulating Nurse functions as a patient advocate during surgery, and manages the flow of the operating room.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet patient and assess patient pre-operatively
  • Assure all documentation, including consent, H&P, and allergy status is present in chart
  • Accompany patient to the O.R. for their procedure
  • Assist anesthesiologist with spinals, or regional blocks
  • Draw up medication, spike bags, as per policy and procedures
  • EMR Charting functions during procedures
  • Secure and prepare all supplies required for surgical intervention
  • Opening sterile implants and supplies
  • Ensure adherence to sterile process and maintenance of the sterile field
  • Perform instrument counts prior to each procedure
  • Perform scrub functions (if appropriately trained, and comfortable with this duty)
  • Collect and label specimens taken during surgical procedure
  • Room turnovers as part of a Team
  • Duties may additionally include functioning as a unit support technician and in the OR core.
  • Follow all facility Policies and Procedures related to position and role in the O.R.
  • Follow all federal, state and departmental safety procedures

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing required, BSN preferred.
  • Current WA state RN license required.
  • Healthcare provider CPR Certification, ACLS, and PALS required (may be obtained within 3 months of hire)
  • Current experience in the operating room as circulator.
  • Orthopaedics and ENT experience in the O.R. preferred.
  • CNOR certification preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills required.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid-19
