Mental Health Therapist Job at Cattaraugus Community Action
Job Summary:
Provides mental health therapy and groups services to primary and secondary victims including rape/sexual assault, family violence, and all other types of crime. Establishes personal treatment goals and advocates with other helping agencies, particularly within the Seneca Nation of Indians to ensure holistic care for survivors.
Collaborates daily with the Seneca Nation of Indian’s Crime Victims Unit for referrals and case collaboration for survivors of crime. Provides total clinical management for survivors.
Education & Experience:
- Must possess a master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field
- possess or be striving towards mental health licensure in New York State.
- Licensed Master Social Work, Licensed Clinical Social work, or Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
Other Requirements & Skills:
- Must have valid driver’s license, insurability, and reliable transportation. o Minimum personal auto coverage of 100,000 bodily per person/300,000 per accident /100,000 property
- Must possess understanding of the issues of youth, poverty, victimization, post-traumatic stress disorders, trauma response, family systems, criminal, and juvenile justice systems. Paid or volunteer work experience in these fields preferred.
- Must have the ability, willingness, proficiency, and enthusiasm to provide competent care to individuals who have experience complex, personal, historical and cultural trauma.
- Must have knowledge of the human services and mental health networks in Cattaraugus and surrounding counties.
- Must have working knowledge of the Victim Services Division and issues and obstacles facing all victims of crime, sexual abuse, and family violence.
- Must have exemplary listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability and motivation to work independently and without direct supervision as well as in a team and with the public.
- Flexible work schedule and ability to occasionally work non-traditional work schedule to best meet the needs of clients. All work performed with clients shall, at a minimum, meet all performance standard threshold of practice set forth by Connecting Communities in Action, State and Federal regulations, funding sources.
- Ability to report daily to Seneca Nation’s Office located in Irving, NY and Salamanca, NY.
- Ability and willingness to provide mobile services for client needs throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, and Erie County communities. All mobile services shall be provided in accordance with Connecting
Community Action policies or as approved by an immediate supervisor.
- Must be able to interface with other social systems in a professional manner.
- Ability and willingness to be available to case and clinical consult with other Victim Service Staff and community partners as appropriate during business hours
- Ability to work both independently and with a team

- Openness to learning new skills and technology as necessary
- Must participate in trainings as required
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide total clinical case management, as prescribed by Connecting Community in Action policies, procedures, as well as clinical and supervisory guidance to all survivors.
- Promote the availability of NYS Office of Victim Services compensation assistance.
- Maintain records and compile reports on all victims and shall participate in staff/division meetings, case
/team reviews, and trainings as required to improve the quality of the Victim services Division
- Provide individual assessments and therapy services to victims of sexual assault and/or family members of victims in Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties
- Facilitate therapeutic group counseling sessions to victims and/or secondary victims as appropriate
- Provide feedback to the survivors, program staff and community partners regarding victim’s progress and readiness to progress along treatment levels as appropriate.
- Record case notes/ progress notes summarizing client progress toward treatment goals
- Prepare materials for case conferences/reviews with other victim services program staff and with other necessary agencies as well as for ongoing development and updating of case files
- Build, liaison and maintain professional relationships with community stakeholders to accomplish referrals, direct services, service coordination, building partnership and community networking.
- Participate to the optimum level in various teams, and shall report on a regular basis to the victim services your immediate supervisor.
- Attend other meetings in service area as well as other committee meetings as deemed necessary.
- Attend Victim Services staff meetings
- Complete all necessary paperwork including intakes, release of information, measure of wellbeing, spent sheets, and referral assistance with NYS OVS Compensation Claim Forms
- Responsible to comply with all funding source regulations, for creating a safe environment, and to report any unsafe situations to the immediate supervisor.
- Must be enthusiastic about promoting the mission of CCA, be willing to work towards the good of the entire agency, and act as an ambassador of CCA throughout the community.
