Lead Teacher Job at United Cerebral Palsy
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To assume all the responsibilities inherent in professional practice, as outlined in the code of
ethics as adopted by United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arkansas, Inc.
2. To preserve confidentiality of all records of which one might be knowledgeable in the course of
professional duties.
3. The lead teacher will routinely plan and implement, in cooperation with the Supervising Special
Educator, activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of each child.
· Develop activities that are culturally appropriate that introduce literacy language based services.
· Provide various experiences and activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling.
· Build children’s esteem
· Comfort Children
· Provide positive guidance
· Provide a positive environment so that the children feel safe and secure at all times
· Engage in activities with the children at all times
4. Ensure that the physical needs of the children are met at all times; including toileting, eating,
drinking, and inclusion in daily routines.
5. The integrated life experience approach (Normalization) shall be the overall theme in planning
of the non-typical child's training curriculum.
6. The teacher must possess the ability to plan for and give direction to a teacher aide,
substitute, floater, volunteer workers, and foster grandparents.
7. Carry out duties and responsibilities as designated by the Supervising Special Educator and/or
Director of Preschool Services to assure the highest quality of services is provided for the
children enrolled in the center.
8. Maintain a classroom that meets Child Care Licensure and requirements of Better Beginnings
Level 3.
9. Maintain records necessary for preschool operation, daily attendance sheets, daily health
sheets, etc.
10. Ensure that all equipment and facility is clean, well maintained, and safe at all times. Report
any potential hazard to the office immediately.
11. Complies with agency policies and procedures as written in UCP Employee Handbook and
Butterfly Learning Center Policy and Procedures, including but not limited to dress code, drug
and alcohol policy, and 25 hours annually of TAPP approved training directly related to
children in your age group.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty competently. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum levels of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Requirements may be modified to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
Education and/or Experience:
A minimum of a high school degree or equivalent, and who has 2 or more years training and experience as a lead teacher working with children in an organized/licensed child care facility, or who has 3 or more years working in an organized/licensed child care facility. Special qualifications and experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of early childhood education is essential. The Preschool Lead Teacher must have the ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professional groups; to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment when dealing with people.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Caring for children is physically demanding. You will be lifting and carrying children, moving equipment and you will be expected to clean and maintain our facility. The Lead Teacher will spend time on the floor or in a child sized furniture. The Lead Teacher will come in contact with children who are ill and/or contagious, and must take precautions to ensure the health and safety of all children parents, team members, and themselves.
The physical conditions should be sufficient to permit the thorough performance of the duties of the position and emotional stability should be maintained. The Preschool Lead Teacher must obtain a Health Certificate annually.
