4. Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

General Description

The Lead Pre-K Teacher is responsible for the academic, social emotional growth and development of the students within the classroom. The Lead Pre-K Teacher will complete weekly lesson plans and updated individualized plans for the students in the classroom. The Lead Pre-K Teacher will work with administrators and parents to provide a warm learning environment for the students. They will be responsible for preparing the classroom and planning for the day with the Assistant Teacher. The Lead Pre-K Teacher will track the progress of the students through observations and will track student progress throughout the year. They will complete attendance, planning, and maintaining a warm environment for the students.

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities

1. Has knowledge of child psychology and how that applies to classroom management.

2. Maintain ongoing, open communication with parents and caregivers.

3. Understands and implements standards of education.

4. Create Weekly Lesson Plans that nurtures and stimulates all domains of child development using the DOE Interdisciplinary Units of Study curriculum.

5. Guides children's experiences in the classroom through open ended questions.

6. Inform families of events in the classroom by creating newsletters and notices for the class.

7. Reviews the classroom design and curriculum with the Assistant Teacher on an ongoing basis to ensure it meets the needs of the children.

8. Attends meetings and professional developments throughout the year

9. Becomes versed in the Policies and Procedures of the Teaching Department.

10. With guidance from the Education Director, the Lead Pre-K Teacher provide a developmentally appropriate and high learning school environment.

Position Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education. Additional knowledge in Special Early Childhood Education is preferred.

2. NYS Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education (Birth- 2ndGrade). Dual certification in Students with Disabilities (Birth- 2ndGrade) highly encouraged, but not required.

3. Knowledge of Head Start and DOE preferred.

4. Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills

6. Basic competency in Microsoft Office for Windows.

7. Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese or Arabic preferred.
