About Our Job
The Identification Unit is an essential personnel support unit of the Denver Police Department, providing 24/7 access for the integrated criminal justice system. The unit supports patrol and investigations in their crime prevention efforts, continuously works to enhance customer service, and increase employee satisfaction. The unit specializes in identity investigations and quality assurance and control of the administrative aspects of the arrest process for the department. The Identification Unit is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Identification and Arrest Process Analyst.
Denver Police Department Identification and Arrest Process Analysts are responsible for the identification of prisoners and subjects processed in the City & County of Denver for Law Enforcement Agencies. Analysts are required to make positive identification of individuals utilizing fingerprint comparisons, reviewing arrest records, criminal history records and/or criminal justice files. Analysts are responsible for accurately entering, updating, storing, reviewing, verifying, confirming, and retrieving arrest reports, warrants and fingerprint records based on guidelines set forth in established Unit policy and procedure.
We are seeking a detail oriented, research minded individual that is comfortable with the Law Enforcement profession, practices, and strategies. The ability to use different databases for research in completing the tasks in this position is required. The successful candidate will be skillful with typical computer systems, Microsoft products, Adobe, and comfortable learning a variety of new software systems. It is critical candidates have an ability to learn quickly on computer systems. Sensitivity to strict confidentiality and personal privacy is imperative to be successful. A willingness to serve a diverse customer base is key.
This unit is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Shifts are based on seniority and will require Analysts to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Following training, Analysts will be assigned to one of three shifts and will need to be available to work afternoon, overnight and weekends.
Successful candidates must complete and pass a background investigation that encompasses the applicant's employment and criminal history.
Job responsibilities will include:
  • Accurately identify subjects utilizing fingerprint classification, analysis, and comparison.
  • Search and examine files of existing fingerprints.
  • Apply inked fingerprint impressions on approved cards at the request of law enforcement personnel to process subjects in custody.
  • Responds to requests from the court for fingerprint analysis and comparison, in addition to testifying in court upon receiving a subpoena.
  • Process and enter law enforcement related records and information into law enforcement sensitive databases.
  • Modify prisoner holds to reflect investigative case filing decisions.
  • Handle documents and information that may contain graphic reports and images that some find disturbing.
  • Comply with court orders to seal arrest records.
  • Responds to various correspondences from citizens and other law enforcement agencies to conduct background checks.
  • Respond to citizen records requests regarding the release of criminal history records in accordance with city, state, and federal guidelines
  • Train and instruct employees on job related functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of clerical experience, of which two (2) years of experience must have been in court, law enforcement or legal setting.
  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements with the exception of the two years of experience in court, law enforcement or legal setting.
  • License and Certification: Must be able to pass an initial pre-security clearance screening and maintain CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) certification as a condition of employment.
