POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, the Floor Staff will monitor the Health and Wellness Floor and members utilizing the space and equipment. The Floor Staff will be responsible for initiating member engagement and encouraging member retention by building relationships on the Health and Wellness floor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Welcome all members to the facility, guide them to equipment they need, and motivate participants to perform their best during their exercise.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by enforcing policies and procedures set for the cardiovascular and strength training areas and guiding them in equipment use.
  • Sanitize equipment between uses, making regular inspections to check for damage and maintenance needs to be reported to the Health and Wellness Director.
  • Open and close wellness floor areas based on staff scheduling, attendance, or equipment condition, alerting staff and member of changes
  • Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, YMCA members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Interpret and communicates the Mission, objectives, and programs to Members and program participants through YMCA activities, trainings, fundraising, and staff meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification, and complete YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Must have basic general knowledge of strength, conditioning, and cardiovascular training along with general fitness principles.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to interact with members and guests in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to maintain alertness for several hours at a time
  • The employee is regularly required exposed to communicable diseases, thus engages frequent handwashing and use of sanitizing agents
  • The employee is frequently required to bend, lean, and stoop to demonstrate exercise techniques and clean equipment
  • The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • The employee is regularly required to communicate with participants using oral comprehension and expression, as well as active listening as speech recognition
  • The employee must be prepared to respond to emergencies on the Health and Wellness floor
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

STARTING PAY: $14/hr-$14/hr
