WSP is currently initiating a search for a GIS Analyst for our Chantilly, VA office. Be involved in projects with our Water Resources Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
The candidate will perform flood risk analysis, mapping, and related services on FEMA projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast U.S. regions. The position will report to our office in Chantilly, VA, but currently is only expected to be in the office 2-3 days a week due to the evolving COVID19 situation.
Your Impact
- Under general supervision, assist with performing GIS surveys and reports from field sites for project research and investigation.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, compiling documentation, and analysis of incoming and existent data.
- Assist with performing basic professional GIS work relating to conducting investigations, inspections, studies, and surveys to gain further information relating to digital mapping, merging topographical data with external data, identifying the characteristics and conditions of a site, and determining the authenticity of spatial data.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, field/work site notes, and software.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of any artifact collection, historical documentation, written procedures, and logbooks.
- Provide local assistance with researching and illustrating the geography of project sites, as well as assisting with public exhibits relating to projects.
- Utilize the latest methods, procedures, technologies, and techniques in performing studies and analysis of sites, and assisting with creating topographic maps, graphs, and tabular data to determine exact locations of project areas and associated physical and geographic sensitivities.
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- 0 - 1 years of GIS project experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Environmental Science, Planning, or a related field
- Proficiency using ESRI ArcGIS software
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office
- Experience in producing high-quality digital and hardcopy maps and project graphics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand and carefully follow both written and oral guidance/instructions
- Resourceful and self-motivated
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with FEMA’s Risk MAP and National Flood Insurance Program (strongly preferred)
- Experience with hazard mitigation
- Customization of GIS software using Python
