Full-Stack Software Developer Job at Rocky Mountain Institute
RMI is transforming the global energy system to secure a clean, prosperous, zero-carbon future for all. We work with businesses, policymakers, communities, and other organizations to identify and scale interventions that will cut greenhouse gas emissions at least 50% by 2030.
In service of that mission we’ve launched Horizon Zero, an effort to make product-level GHG accounting more accurate up and down the supply chain. To maximize the adoption and effectiveness of these guidelines requires technical solutions. We’re in the early days of defining and creating these and are looking for help!
You’ll work closely with our Technical Product Director and subject matter experts to create open-source solutions that allow our partners to adopt product-level accounting. Our unique position as a non-profit allows us to focus on impact, interoperability, and growing an ecosystem-enabling us to have a dramatically greater impact.
Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and the focus of unprecedented innovation and investment. Combining your technical depth with an education in climate and energy you can’t get anywhere else is a unique opportunity.
Minimum qualifications
- 3-7+ years of experience working professionally as a software engineer, including server-side work on modern web applications

- Experience with some combination of data standards, storage, transfer, and management
- Comfort working across multiple projects in a new group
- Experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders
- Urgency to apply your skills to climate solutions
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with containers/cloud deployment/devops, ideally on AWS
- Experience writing APIs
- Knowledge of carbon accounting principles
- Contributions to open-source projects
- Experience partnering with other organizations to collaboratively bring a product to market
You are encouraged to apply even if your profile doesn’t exactly fit the above requirements - we commit to evaluating each candidate equitably regardless of background. At RMI, diverse perspectives & experiences are important to us, and we welcome those who challenge our thinking.
We highly encourage individuals of underrepresented groups to apply!
