Electrician A (Harrisburg) - Grade 3 Job at Penn State University
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State Harrisburg is searching for a full time Electrician A to join their team. Duties include:
- Tear down units, localize trouble and determine extent of repairs necessary; repair or replace defective parts or wiring and reassemble
- Disassemble electrical motors and equipment, clean, repair or replace defective parts or wiring; adjust and/or replace such parts as brushes, bearings, commutators and reassemble
- Install and wire equipment such as generators, motors, electrical boxes, panels, switches, outlets and fixtures, darkroom equipment, hot water heaters, electrical heating units, vending machines, commercial and residential dishwashers, electrical ranges, instructional kilns and welders and air conditioning units
- Erect new lighting circuits in offices and various units
- Maintain and repair electrical circuits and equipment such as switch gear, controls for air conditioning systems, motor driven air handling and ventilating equipment, controls and pump motors for zoned heating system
- Perform periodic inspections of motors, switchboards, circuits and other equipment as a matter of preventive maintenance
- Inspect, service and repair lighting system; replace ballasts, switches, outlets, wires and wiring fuses and circuit breakers
- Test and maintain fire alarm and emergency light systems on an assigned schedule
- Detect unusual conditions or defective materials and report to supervisor
- Direct the work of one or more lower grade employees
- Inspect the operation of the auxiliary power supply equipment located in the Main Building during electrical outages; perform periodic tests by operating the emergency generator and service the equipment when not in use
- Operate University owned vehicles as required
- Assist during emergency snow removal operations on campus
Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Over 1 up to and including 3 years of effective experience.
Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Days Off: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
