Human Resources Director – Michigan

Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith, P.C. is searching for a Director of Human Resources to support our growing Michigan-wide law firm. Foster Swift is a 120-year-old firm with 85 attorneys and 100 support staff, across five offices. We are looking for a progressive human resources professional with a minimum of five years of experience in a law firm or other professional services environment of similar size.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for all human resources functions of the firm including resource planning, recruitment, performance management, employee development, staff compensation, benefits, employee relations, talent retention and regulatory compliance. The position has supervisory responsibility. Regular travel between offices is required. Primary office can be located in either Lansing or Southfield. This is not offered as remote or hybrid.

Qualified candidates will have:

  • Experience and knowledge of all aspects of the human resources discipline
  • Strategic approach to developing effective people processes to support the practice of law into the future
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills as well as being high on the empathy scale
  • Change management skills
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Very good technology skills including HRIS, Word, Outlook and Excel
  • A professional demeanor and unwavering ethics including maintaining confidences
  • An inspiring leader
