Job Title: Commissioning Engineer

Location: Lyndhurst, NJ (This position reports to a TRC Office in Lyndhurst, New Jersey and requires 85% travel and sustained relocation for periods of up to 12 months to project sites within the United States.)

Duties: Performs basic troubleshooting and problem analysis associated with electrical protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including application, drawing, wiring, settings errors and omissions, equipment malfunctions, questionable apparatus test results, and battery ground faults. Plans, coordinates, performs, and documents the commissioning of multiple utility substation protection, control, and power circuits in accordance with company and client requirements, budgets and schedules to ensure the intended operation, equipment safety, and personnel are met. Participates in project kickoff, planning, progress, and "lessons learned" meetings. Assists in developing project-specific testing and commissioning and energization plans. Prepares detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation, including project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results, and analyses. Ensures proper project drawing management and general housekeeping is kept onsite at all times. Ensures working/field copies of project drawings are continuously updated throughout a project to ensure accuracy. Assists other Engineers and Technicians during commissioning and systems and equipment startup. Conducts formal walk down procedures prior to energizing equipment. Conducts control circuit testing, including wire checks and point-to-point verification, functional testing and troubleshooting, and circuit isolation and restoration (trip DC, Close DC, AC heat and power, transformer control, alarms, SCADA, relay I/O). Conducts CT/PT circuit testing, wire checks and point-to-point verification, functional testing and troubleshooting, burden, circuit isolation, ratio, polarity, single point grounding, and current injection. Conducts in-service checks, including energization planning, primary and secondary phasing, voltage and current magnitudes, power flow, metering, and vector diagrams.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and 2 years of experience performing electrical power engineering and field service engineering

Or, in the alternative:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (willing to accept foreign education equivalent) and 4 years of experience performing electrical power engineering and field service engineering.

Required Skills:

Must also possess the following:

(1) Demonstrated Expertise (DE) designing AC and DC schematics, wiring and interconnect drawings, and one-line and three-line diagrams for electrical protection and control systems, including relay communications;

(2) DE in the specification, calculation, and procurement of electrical power equipment and power plant equipment;

(3) DE leveraging major national utilities design guides, processes, electrical and physical design, and their standards and procedures, including IEEE industry standards; and,

(4) DE developing test macros and test procedures and performing relay elements and logic testing and functional testing.

Offered wage: $130,499/yr.
