Position Summary
Transmission Engineering offers qualified students, in accredited engineering programs leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree, the opportunity to work in various areas of engineering on a rotational basis as part of the engineering cooperative program. Transmission Engineering manages the design and construction of substations, transmission facilities throughout the Duke Energy service area. This department is also responsible for any upgrades to these facilities to ensure safe and reliable operation of the assets. Engineering co-ops will work alongside staff engineers who manage equipment reliability and perform analysis and design of structures, systems and components within Duke Energy’s transmission service territory. Rotational positions are available in Transmission Line Engineering, Protection & Controls, Substation Engineering, Siting & Permitting, Asset Management – Technical Support and Project Management.
In addition to working within your discipline, you may be asked to work across a multi-engineering discipline platform.
Basic Qualifications

Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

Valid driver’s license

Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills

Currently enrolled in the co-op program at an accredited college or university, or the ability to be enrolled in the program prior to start date

Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

Exposure to mechanical, electrical, noisy and/or other hazards

Depending on work location, may be required to meet requirements for unescorted access/security clearance

Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, appropriate clothing, ear plugs, fall protection, etc.), as needed

Ability to lift 25 pounds

Ability to work at heights and from suspended work platforms

Required to work in all areas of the power plant
